Abstract:
When one measures the vibration transfer function by exciting one point and measure the response at the other point that is some distance away from the excitation point in an elastic body, a natural expectation is that there is an inherent time delay term in the transfer function, and
that this delay is proportional to the distance over the velocity of the sound.
This is not the case, however, when the elastic body has a nite dimension, as a standing wave is formed in a nite body as a result of the excitation.
