- The two U.S. LIGO vacuum systems, located in the states of Washington and Louisiana, are among the largest high vacuum systems ever built. Now in their second successful decade of service, we are confronting the effects of age, just as we are planning the construction of a new, third system here in India. Novel features of the original design and construction, problems we’ve encountered, and possible improvements to consider for LIGO India will be discussed.
