- Solutions to Einstein’s field equations predict gravitational waves: disturbances in space-time that propagate at the speed of light. The Laser Interferometric Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) is a pair of detectors that search for these disturbances by looking for small length changes caused by passing gravitational waves. One promising class of sources for gravitational wave is binary black holes. In this proposal, methods for optimizing the analysis pipelines for Advanced LIGO to detect binary black holes are discussed.
