LIGO Document G1700015-v2
- The observation of gravitational waves from the coalescence of binary black holes by the advanced LIGO detectors has opened a new window on the Universe. This marks the first direct detection of gravitational waves and the first observation of a binary black hole merger. In this talk, I will present results from Advanced LIGO's first observing run. I will discuss the observed signals, the evidence that they originate from black hole binary coalescences and the future prospects for gravitational wave astronomy
