- Future-generation gravitational-wave antennae will be sensitive to Newtonian gravity perturbations generated by seismic waves and the atmosphere, which are potentially limiting the detectors' sensitivity at lower frequencies. At the Sanford Underground Lab, we have started to construct a seismometer array to investigate the seismic sources of Newtonian noise. Concepts to mitigate this noise are still vague, but many experimental and theoretical results obtained over the last years make us optimistic that our ambitious sensitivity goals can be reached.
