- Albert Einstein revolutionized our understanding of space, time, and gravitation with his General Theory of Relativity. Two key features of his theory still await full confirmation: the faint ripples of space-time called gravitational waves, and the dramatic ruptures of space-time called black holes. In this lecture, I will explain how gravitational wave detectors have progressed to the point that they will soon start observing these waves, and also how those observations will yield new insights into the nature of black holes.
